Privilege Ibiza No Longer Exists: This Is [UNVRS], the Club That Replaced It

If you remember Privilege, or someone told you it was the biggest club in the world, here is the short version: Privilege closed after the summer of 2019, never reopened after the pandemic, and the building in San Rafael is now [UNVRS] (pronounced "universe"). It opened on 30 May 2025 and in its first year was voted number one in DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs 2026. Same site, completely new club.

Before Privilege: Ku (1979–1995)

The site started in the early 1970s as a restaurant with a bar and a swimming pool, known as Club San Rafael. In 1979 it was sold to a group that included the footballer José Antonio Santamaría, and renamed Ku, after a Hawaiian god. Ku became one of the defining clubs of 1980s Ibiza: an open-air room built around the pool, often compared to an open-air Studio 54. On 30 May 1987 Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé filmed the video for "Barcelona" there. The open-air era ended in the early 1990s, when new rules forced the big clubs to cover their dancefloors.

Privilege (1995–2019): the world's biggest club

A change of ownership in 1995 brought the Privilege name. The club hosted Manumission, one of the island's most famous parties, from 1994 into the 2000s, and the 2003 Guinness World Records edition listed Privilege as the world's largest nightclub, with 6,500 m² and room for 10,000 people. That record is why so many guides still mention it. Privilege closed after the 2019 season, and the pandemic meant it never came back.

[UNVRS] (2025–today)

In August 2024 the team behind Ushuaïa and Hï announced they were taking over the site, and The Night League turned it into [UNVRS], which opened on 30 May 2025. Its concept leans on technology and immersive production. On capacity, the numbers in circulation don't agree (figures from 10,000 to 20,000 have been published), and the club itself doesn't list one, so we won't give you a number. What isn't in doubt is the line-up power: in 2026 the week ran from Carl Cox on Sundays and elrow on Saturdays to FISHER on Thursdays, Anyma's ÆDEN on Tuesdays, Jamie Jones's Paradise on Wednesdays and David Guetta's Galactic Circus on Fridays, with John Summit, Tiësto and Armin van Buuren sharing Mondays.

The change of hands also reshaped the island's map. The Night League already ran Ushuaïa and Hï in Playa d'en Bossa; with [UNVRS] it added the biggest venue in San Rafael. In DJ Mag's 2026 poll that trio took first, third and fourth place, which means three of the world's five most-voted clubs that year belonged to one Ibiza operator.

Why so many guides still say Privilege

Two reasons. The Guinness record made Privilege one of the most-cited clubs in travel writing for two decades, and a lot of that writing is never updated. And Ibiza has done this before: Space became Hï in 2017, and you'll still find lists recommending Space. If a guide tells you to go to Privilege or Space in 2027, it was written before these changes, and its prices and opening hours are probably out of date too.

Going to [UNVRS] in 2027

The 2026 season closed on Saturday 10 October with The Martinez Brothers, Dennis Cruz, East End Dubs and Mochakk, and 2027 dates aren't out yet. Getting there is easy by Ibiza standards: in 2026 the club ran a free one-way shuttle for ticket holders from San Antonio bus station and from Playa d'en Bossa, every 30 minutes from 22:45, and the Discobus line between San Antonio and Ibiza Town stops at [UNVRS] and at Amnesia, its neighbour in San Rafael. One tip from Ibiza Spotlight's guide: don't stand on the stairs. Table requests for the 2027 season are already open on the club's site, and we can help you with tickets or a table once dates are published.
