Café Mambo guide: the sunset, the front row and the pre-parties
Watching the sun go down on San Antonio's Sunset Strip is one of the classic Ibiza rituals, and Café Mambo is the name most associated with it. It isn't a club, but for many people it's where the night begins. Here's how it works.
From a finca to the Sunset Strip
Café Mambo was founded in 1994 by Javier Anadón, starting from a run-down finca on the coastal rocks of San Antonio. It grew into the island's most famous sunset spot, and in 2026 it opened its 32nd season on Friday 17 April. It's open every day from 10:00 to 03:00 in season, serving breakfast and daytime music with sea views before the sunset crowd arrives.

Free entry and the front row
Entry is free and DJs play every evening. The catch is the front row: the seats facing the sunset need a booking with a minimum spend, which goes on food and drinks. Without a booking you can still come in, but on busy evenings the best spots go early. If the front row is full or over budget, Ibiza Spotlight suggests Mint Lounge next door as a cheaper alternative with comparable cocktails.
Pre-parties
Part of Café Mambo's role is as a warm-up for the clubs. In 2026 its weekly programme included pre-parties linked to Glitterbox at Amnesia on Fridays and Claptone's The Masquerade at Chinois on Saturdays. If you already have tickets for one of those nights, the sunset here is the natural first stop.
When the season ends
Café Mambo usually closes in mid-October. In 2025 the closing weekend was Friday 17 and Saturday 18 October, with Eats Everything headlining the Saturday; in 2024 the 30th-season closing was on 18 and 19 October. As of 11 October 2026, this year's closing date hadn't been announced, so check before you go.
Getting there and what to wear
Café Mambo is on the Sunset Strip, on the rocks of San Antonio's coast, within walking distance of the town centre. There's no published dress code; summer clothes are fine, but if you're heading to a club afterwards, dress for the club, since you probably won't go back to the hotel in between.
Quick tips
- Book the front row if the view matters to you; it's the only guaranteed way.
- Without a booking, arrive well before sunset.
- Try Mint Lounge next door if Mambo is full.
- Use it as the start of the night: Eden and Es Paradis are in town, and Amnesia is a short taxi ride away.
Who Café Mambo suits
Café Mambo suits pretty much anyone in San Antonio at sunset: couples, groups getting ready for a club night, and people who just want a drink with a view and a DJ. It's not a place to dance until dawn; it's the place to start. If you want something calmer or cheaper, Mint Lounge next door is the usual alternative.
Planning a San Antonio evening
A classic San Antonio evening goes like this: sunset at Café Mambo or a neighbouring bar on the Sunset Strip, dinner in town, then a club. In season, Eden and Es Paradis are within walking distance, and Amnesia and UNVRS are a short taxi or disco bus away in San Rafael. If you're heading to Glitterbox or The Masquerade, the Mambo pre-party is built for exactly that plan.
And if you're on the island in mid-October, check whether the closing weekend has been announced; in recent years it has been one of the last big sunset parties of the season, and a fitting goodbye to summer.
